A tribute to Michael Clarke

The Aerobility team would like to remember Michael Clarke. Michael’s family made a kind donation of £600 in his honour after he passed away earlier this year.

Michael, a keen aviator was hoping to fly with Aerobility but sadly passed away before his flight took place. Flying was part of his life, being involved in the MPM Flying Club, spending hours of his time helping to rebuild the ‘Spartan Arrow’ and gaining his ballooning licence. His family felt he would have loved this money to go towards helping others fly and his donation will help disabled aviators in the UK reach the sky just as he did.

Alphabet team volunteer at Aerobility for the day

Thank you to the Alphabet team who spent the day volunteering at Aerobility on Wednesday. 

The day started with an overview of Aerobility and was then packed with activities including mail outs, aeroplane & hanger cleaning and gardening. Aerobility volunteer Mick was also on hand to give the team instructed flights in our simulator.

Alphabet also delivered an educational risk and compliance workshop to the Aerobility team.

AEP Airfield Operations

We had another great AEP session on Saturday.  The topic was Airfield Operations and the group looked at small airfields and what basics are needed.  They watched a short film about Tisted Airfield and then set up their own airfield - putting in runways whilst avoiding hills and trees. They then looked at compass points and the prevailing wind direction. They worked really well together and I think we may even have a few airfield planners of the future amongst the group!

Aerobility & Cabro Aviation to provide trial flights from Aberdeen Airport on Saturday 31st October

Aerobility will be providing trial flights for individuals with varying disabilities throughout the day on Saturday 31st October at Aberdeen Airport in partnership with Cabro Aviation.

Trial flights to individuals cost just £63. Unfortunately at this time we are unable to offer hoisted flights although this is something we hope to provide in the near future.

BWPA Diamond Jubilee 2015 Scholarships

The British Women Pilots' Association (BWPA) intends to award up to six scholarships to female pilots in 2015 as a part of the celebration of this, its Diamond Jubilee year. The awards will be available in a variety of aviation activities, including Flying Aeroplanes (to include both Vintage and non-Vintage aeroplanes), Gliding, Microlight flying and Ballooning.

There will also be two more specialised scholarships, involving training for an aeroplane instructor rating, and commercial flying (in conjunction with specific schools).

The Aeroplane Flying Scholarship Application Form is now available on the BWPA Website. The application form contains full instructions for entry. Selection for the award will be by a panel of two BWPA members, and one LAA member.

The final application submission dates are 24th October and 31st October. Applications received after the relevant deadline will not be cosidered.

Aviation Education Programme 2015/2016 starts!

Today at Aerobility we welcomed 8 students starting the new AEP course.  They are all keen aviation enthusiasts and seemed to enjoy today's introduction to the course, which included a challenging quiz.

We look forward to getting to know the new students and wish them every success with the upcoming course.

Sunlife Financial of Canada employee volunteering day at Aerobility

On Friday 18th September, 10 Sunlife Financial of Canada employees from the Basingstoke office offered their volunteering skills at Aerobility HQ, Blackbushe.

The team helped with gardening, painting and mail outs as well as spending some time trying out our simulator with Aerobility volunteer Ian.

Matt achieves his Private Pilots Licence

Congratulations to Aerobility flyer Matt Noakes who has now gained his Private Pilots Licence. Matt is a recipient of the Air League PPL Flying Scholarship for wounded soldiers funded by Boeing.

Matt commented "I really want to again express my thanks to you all of you for allowing this opportunity to happen, I don't think you realise what this has all meant to me, I hope I can can continue to fly with you and helping you out where I can if possible"

We wish Matt the best of luck with his future in aviation!

Brian's first solo at Tatenhill!

Brian Thompson has recently flown his first solo at Tatenhill. He performed a perfect landing on runway 08 in PA28 aircraft G-TALE after having to do a go around on his initial approach owing to an aircraft ahead that was slow to clear the runway.

He has been travelling down from Middlesborough to Tatenhill on a regular basis to have lessons with instructor Craig.

Brian has a weakness in his left arm, but we managed to adapt methods to overcome this and now he can fly and operate the aircraft very well and in a safe manner. Obviously Brian was very pleased as the photo shows!
